Do not over polish brasses, Regular polishing was fine in the days when new replacements could be easily bought, now that is not so. Over-polishing can wear down the fine detail on the brasses.
I would strongly advise against using a polisher to buff up brasses, they can be very destructive. In the UK we use Brasso for brasses that have tarnished and Solvol Autosol for spots of corrosion that the brasso can't shift.
